Tamil Nadu has won the 'Best State' award for organ donation for the third time in a row.The award was announced at the 8th Organ Donation Day even held in Delhi.More than 5,933 organs have been donated by 1,056 donors in Tamil Nadu.
The state's health minister Vijaya Baskar and health department secretary DrRadhakrishnan both received the award from Minister of State Anupriya Patel.
Tamil Nadu had nine years ago launched a registry to push up cadaver organ donations. Now, it has also launched an app for the transplant authority.
Transtan, available on Playstore, was to be launched by chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami in late November, along with a new web address. But the moral code of conduct kicked in after the Election Commission's announcement of the RK Nagar bypoll, and that has led to the launch being postponed."But the app is available for download," the health minister has said.
Every year, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation and the Union health and family welfare ministry organise an organ donation day to award the states doing well in the area.
