2ND TEST: RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN BECOMES FASTEST TO 300 TEST WICKETS

With the wicket of Suranga Lakmal, Ravichandran Ashwin not only helped India equal their largest win in terms of runs with an innings and 239 runs victory, the off-spinner reached the personal milestone of 300 wickets becoming the fastest to the mark in 54 matches, surpassing Dennis Lillee's record of 56 matches during day four of the second India vs Sri Lanka Test at Nagpur on 27 Nov.

Interestingly, Ashwin broke Lillee's record that was set exactly 36 years ago, the very same day. Ashiwn returned with a match haul of eight wickets - 4 for 67 in the first innings and 4 for 63 in the second.

Ashwin also completed 50 Test wickets in 2017 calendar year. After the match, Ashwin said that he would like to double the tally. "I really hope I can go on to double these 300 wickets," said Ashwin. "We are a bit more blessed than the other greats. We have technology to help. We have help with our fitness," he added.
